Thanks for turning me onto to Beastars though. A dramatic series, with the same artsyle, would have a harder time being taken as seriously were it to be animated in a different style. Something like it could have premiered on. Dutiful and intelligent, Twilight Sparkle is obsessed with one thing: studying magic She once studied so much, she made no time for hanging out with. To try to put it in comparison to another colorful animal show, Aggretsuko draws comedy from the dissonance between the art style and subject matter. PL is even more exaggerated and simplistic than FiM, so the darker subject matter is likely to be completely avoided. FiM could touch upon darker subject matter but had to frame it in a fantastical way instead of talking about it directly, not only due to the target demographic but its style as well. I’m trying to say that certain art styles and show formats lend themselves better to certain tones than others. I’m not saying it isn’t possible for such a show to exist.
